Friday (2/12)

• Woke up to ice, a branch fell in the front yard
• Fort Worth had a 100+ car pileup
• Reddit post from a local meteo (Avery Tomasco) said this next week was gonna be BAD
• Asked sales Rob if it made sense for me to leave, he said no
• Went to HEB to stock up on food, water, and gas preemptively
• Met a guy at the gas station who said he was already 20+ hrs without power

Saturday (2/13)

• Wanted to go to trail but saw a car slid off the road at MoPac
• Tried to go to HEB to get snacks but nose bleeds
• Started dripping outdoor pipes (lol, useless looking back)

Sunday (2/14)

• Ice was starting to get bad
• Towards the evening saw we had a chance for rolling blackouts per the ERCOT app
• Slept in guest room since its warmer, tried to insulate the house as well as possible

Monday (2/15)

• 2AM power went out, I woke up at 5AM cold and grabbed more blankets
• Checked ERCOT app, lost 25GW of generation in 30 min
• Texted with neighbors after we realized power was out, went out to talk with them
• 6 inches of snow, looked really nice if we had power
• Mansplained to Tony that Tuesday afternoon at best is when we’d get power back
• Made a coffee by boiling water and crushing beans with a rolling pin
• Walked to Murchison, a lot of kids playing in the snow
• Got to talk to a bunch of neighbors like Micah about this situation
• Made my fridge food, chicken fajitas with onion and peppers and kale
• Played guitar in the afternoon sunshine from my bedroom
• Walked morning loop, tried to help a car that got stuck but they were too stuck and I couldn’t do anything
• Prepared for a cold night where temps in house were under 40F
• Tried to do a bathroom sauna in guest bath but that didn’t really work
• Found the candles for when it got dark and started lighting them around the house
• Made some hot water and put it in a thermos to provide warmth
• Went to bed at like 8PM wearing thermal tights, ski pants, shirt, vest, hoodie, puffy coat, beanie, gloves, 2 socks, 2 blankets

Tuesday (2/16)

• woke up and it was very cold
• Went out, talked to neighbors, did my walk, etc
• Raked a path into the driveway
• More coffee
• Was really down by Tuesday, things weren’t looking any better, no new snow but some ice
• Friends started checking in by Tuesday; Harding, Matt, etc
• Talked to Micah more since he was chopping up the branch that had fallen Tuesday afternoon, learned he was from San Clemente
• Supplies were holding up, was going to stay with Tony and Christy if no power
• Heard power was coming back to some houses in the nieghborhood, went on a walk to see who
• Texted Janice, she had power and said I could stay, I cried
• Cooked my freezer food, ground turkey with peppers, so nice knowing I had a place to stay
• Put freezer food on deck covered by snow (only opened each fridge door once)
• Took a warm shower
• Heard a chainsaw in the backyard, thought it was Austin energy, it was actually CHAINSAW GUY
• Neighbors looked kinda sad I found a place to stay
• Went to Janice’s place, slept in her second bedroom
• Her friend Robbie also needed a place to stay, was nice to commiserate
• Robbies place flooded
• Janice’s upstairs bathroom didn’t have water
• Pasha was happy
• Slept for like 9.5 hrs which felt great

Wednesday (2/17)

• Iced hard over night
• Had 2 big cups of coffee and oats and Janice’s
• Went home, no pipes burst
• Branch hanging over power line to our house had snapped but not fallen, was precarious
• Another day of shoveling, raking, chatting with neighbors
• Walked up to Bidermans, called home, cried
• Was chatting with Tony in the afternoon when he was like wait do you hear that and power was back!!!
• Power, internet, etc all back, it survived
• Went in and just started warming up, did some body weight
• Went to shovel, Andy at Ringo’s house, his pipes burst so I helped him shut off his water
• Outdoor faucet started running too! No burst pipes
• Had tony over for a beer, he stayed for a couple hours, was nice to just talk and chat since we were in the clear, cool guy
• Slept in my own warm house after 58hrs of no power

Thursday (2/18)

• Still had power, things were starting to melt
• Not much really happened, kinda worked but not really

Friday (2/19)

• More of the same as Thursday, kinda work but not really
• Helped another neighbor with their pipes that burst
• Went on a run at the track
• I still had water but had to boil, brought a bunch of water to Raj’s place since he didn’t have water
• Still had my original gallon jugs tbh
• Also brought hiwings over
• Didn’t make my Houston flight, no way it was safe enough
• Got obliterated at rajs place, was fun to see someone and chat Saturday
• Drove back to my house safely
• Went on a run
• No burst pipes
• Said peace to tony, took an afternoon flight back to SAN
